The Isis Project: Empowering Girls through the Celebration of Extraordinary Women

The Isis Project is a public art initiative founded in San Antonio, Texas, by marketing professional, Cassandra Yardeni and photographer, Kat Carey.

Inspired by Austin-based photographer, Jaime Moore’s “Not Just A Girl” collection of five photos of her pre-school aged daughter dressed as real-life female heroines, The Isis Project takes this a step further and invites all girls, age infant through 18, to participate and pose as one female trailblazer.

The photographs will be accompanied by a 140-character description of the heroine and shared via social media as well as on city infrastructure and local schools and buildings.

Why “Isis”?

Isis, the Egyptian goddess of rebirth remains one of the most familiar images of empowered and utter femininity. The goddess Isis was the first daughter of Geb, god of the Earth, and Nut, the goddess of the Overarching Sky. Isis was born on the first day between the first years of creation, and was adored by her human followers.
